“Frankfurt Airport” - a song and tribute to Daniel Naroditsky

Chess Personalities
The loss of Danya has had a deep impact on me. I have been inspired to write a song in tribute.

This song is an attempt to share my admiration for Danya and his wonderful life. I always loved Danya’s concept of “Frankfurt Airport” in chess; the transient position of a piece, en route to a more commanding square. In the song, I reflect that earth was merely his “Frankfurt airport”, on his way to greater things. I hope it can help to share some love for a true legend of our game.

Lyrics:

Though I never met you, I feel like I knew you Danya.
Your charismatic communication, of your genius calculations, Danya.
But the consequence of greatness, is the jealous make accusations, Danya.

Know a legend’s soul’s immortal, so I offer you this thought..... We were just your Frankfurt Airport.
Though we miss you here, I have to feel,
You’ve a better square, off somewhere....
We were just your Frankfurt Airport.

That cruel twist of fate that saw you suffer a defeat to life’s checkmate.
At just 29, stunned to realise your life was lived as a speed-run.
Furthermore there’s left an emptiness, like F6 or outpost hole on D4.

But a legend’s soul’s immortal, so I offer you this thought..... We were just your Frankfurt Airport.
Though we miss you here, I have to feel,
You’ve a better square, off somewhere....
We were just your Frankfurt Airport.
